Historic Liverpool venue loved by The Beatles is now on Airbnb

Fans of The Beatles are now able to stay at a historic club that the belovedband performed some of their earliest gigs and honed their musical craft. The Casbah Coffee Club, located in West Derby, Liverpool, is an iconic venue that opened its doors to many musicians who would go on to become musical legends and pioneers of the Merseybeat scene.

The venue closed in 1962, but before that, The Quarrymen, John Lennon’s original band, performed on 13 times, and it later staged over 40 performances by The Beatles. It was easy for the venue to gain access to the band, given the owner was Mona Best, the mother of The Beatles’ original drummer, Pete Best.

Bands would perform in the basement, and the upstairs unit was a living section. Best originally moved into the property when he was 12 and recalls the nights he spent with the band there. “The Beatles played here, The Beatles partied here and The Beatles slept here,” he said to the Press Association.

The drummer was excited by the prospect of turning the property into guest accommodation, which he has called a “lasting tribute” to the band and a projection of his mother’s dream when she initially opened the facility. Additionally it allows fans to follow in the footsteps of their idols. Best and his younger brother, Roag, the son of the Beatles road manager Neil Aspinall, took on the project. The two have been working on the conversion since 2020 and are now finally ready to open the property to the public.

The accommodation is Beatles-themed, and each of the five suites is named after a member of the Beatles. Guests can stay in rooms named after John Lennon, Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison, as well as Stuart Sutcliffe, the band’s original bassist, and Pete Best, the original drummer.

While this might seem harsh on Ringo Starr, who eventually replaced Best, the two have confirmed their history has nothing to do with the decision. “It’s nothing to do with Pete and Ringo and what happened,” confirmed Roag, “Everything we do is about being authentic and The Beatles that performed and partied here were John, Paul, George, Pete and Stuart.”

Musical history available on Airbnb
This isn’t the only property available on Airbnb that was once home to iconic musicians. Fans of Jimi Hendrix can stay at his Gingerbread house in Hawaii, which was home to the guitarist for a brief period in 1970 shortly before his death.

Furthermore, music lovers can also stay in Sonny and Cher’s home in Los Angeles, Bing Crosby’s house in Palm Springs, and Prince’s iconic Minneapolis house, which featured in Purple Rain.

Those who choose to stay at The Casbah Coffee Club will not only be able to stay in the same rooms as The Beatles but the downstairs basement has also been left as a venue. Guests can look around, examine the drum kit, and even see some of the graffiti that the band left behind, including, “John I’m back”, which is scratched into the ceiling above the stage.

Prices start at £150 per night for the newly-opened rental property, and Beatles fans from across the globe have already started booking their voyages.
