“Julian Lennon on Being Outside The Beatles’ Inner Circle: ‘I’m Just as Curious as Anybody Else'”

Julian Lennon Reflects on Life Outside The Beatles’ Inner Circle

Julian Lennon, the eldest son of John Lennon, has revealed that he remains on the outskirts of The Beatles’ “inner circle.” In a candid interview with The Guardian, Julian shared his perspective on the band’s ongoing cultural significance and his distant relationship with their legacy.

“An Outsider Looking In”

When asked about his connection to The Beatles, Julian explained, “It’s news to me half the time. I’m not part of the inner circle – I never have been.” He recounted how his father’s departure when he was very young created a divide, leaving him and his mother, Cynthia Lennon, outside of the band’s close-knit group.

Despite the distance, Julian expressed gratitude for his bond with his half-brother, Sean Lennon: “We’re best buddies, and he tells me what he can, but things are pretty secret on The Beatles front.”

A Fan’s Perspective

Julian admitted to being as fascinated by new Beatles projects as any fan. Referring to recent films like Peter Jackson’s Get Back and Martin Scorsese’s Beatles ’64, he joked, “I do find myself going, how is it possible that there’s another Beatles film?”

Mixed Feelings About “Hey Jude”

Julian also reflected on Hey Jude, the iconic song Paul McCartney wrote to comfort him and his mother during John and Cynthia Lennon’s separation. While he acknowledged its beautiful sentiment, he admitted, “I’ve also been driven up the wall by it.” Still, he concluded, “In my heart of hearts, there’s not a bad word I could say about it.”

No Sibling Rivalry

Julian dismissed rumors of a feud with Sean as “such bull” and emphasized their close relationship.
